Fall protection for windows and balconies
Floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies on upper floors require reliable fall protection. Our French balconiesare mounted directly on the facade and secure the exit without obstructing the view. For balconies, terraces, and walls, we offer configurable balcony railingsthat permanently withstand weathering and safely transfer static loads into the supporting component – optionally mounted on the floor slab or set in front of the end face.
Stair railings and handrails
Stairs indoors and outdoors need a secure grip. Our stair railingsprevent slipping through vertical infill bars or suitable infills and meet the requirements of DIN 18065. Additionally, you will find handrailsfor wall mounting – with neatly ground welds and a pleasant feel for daily use.
Metal fences, window grilles, and industrial railings
For permanent property boundaries, metal fencesare a low-maintenance, stable alternative to wood. Custom-made window grillesprovide effective burglar protection in ground-floor areas. For workplaces, platforms, and loading ramps, we manufacture industrial railings according to DIN EN ISO 14122-3 – with knee rail and optional toe board.
Railing height and regulations: What building codes prescribe
The requirements for railings as fall protection are regulated by the state building codes. The most important key figures for your planning:
- Railing height: up to 12 m fall height at least 90 cm, above that at least 110 cm (depending on the federal state).
- Bar spacing: the clear spacing of vertical infill bars must not exceed 12 cm to protect children.
- No ladder effect: horizontal bars are impermissible in many federal states because children can climb on them – vertical bars, glass, or perforated sheets are the safe choice.
- Stair railings: dimensions and heights according to DIN 18065; industrial railings for workplaces according to DIN EN ISO 14122-3.
All Kirchberger railings are configured so that these specifications can be met. In case of doubt, the local building authority will provide binding information for your construction project.
Material selection: Stainless steel, hot-dip galvanized or powder-coated
The basis for a durable railing is the right material. Depending on the place of use and desired appearance, there are three proven versions to choose from:
- Stainless steel (V2A/V4A): rust-free, elegant, and easy to clean – ideal for timeless architecture; V4A is recommended near the coast and where chlorine is present.
- Hot-dip galvanized steel: the zinc layer reliably protects against corrosion – the economical solution for unprotected outdoor areas.
- Hot-dip galvanized + powder coating (Duplex): double corrosion protection plus RAL color of your choice, e.g., RAL 7016 Anthracite – color-coordinated with windows and facade.
What does a custom-made railing cost?
Custom-made doesn't have to be expensive – the configurator immediately shows you the price for your desired dimensions. For orientation (as of 07/2026):
- Railing Model Bavaria (hot-dip galvanized, vertical solid bars): from €199
- French balcony: from €245 in galvanized version
- Railing Model Lines (hot-dip galvanized + powder-coated): from €284.85
- Glass railing Model Vista (metal-glass combination): from €396.50
- Stainless steel railing set Domus E/S (Module 150 × 110 cm): from €472
