Die Befestigung erfolgt ohne zu bohren durch massive Klemmwirkung. Die Glasscheibe wird passgenau in die Edelstahl- oder Aluprofile geschoben und mittels Gummidichtungen oder Kunststoffkeilen sicher arretiert.

Bei nach außen öffnenden Fenstern ist die Reinigung schwer zugänglich. Ein magnetischer Fensterputzer oder ein Fensterabzieher mit langem, abwinkelbarem Teleskopstiel sind hier die sichersten Hilfsmittel.

Das Glas kann an runden Edelstahl-Punkthaltern (Rondellen) befestigt werden, die direkt in der Wand sitzen. Alternativ wird es seitlich in filigranen Aluminium-Klemmschienen oder einem durchgehenden Bodenprofil verspannt.

Die exakte Glasdicke wird vom Hersteller durch Typenprüfung (AbP) anhand der Fensterbreite festgelegt. Bei französischen Balkonen bewegt sich die Glasstärke meist zwischen massiven 12 mm und 16 mm.

Laut technischer Richtlinie muss für Absturzsicherungen zwingend Verbundsicherheitsglas (VSG) verbaut werden. Dieses besteht meist aus zwei miteinander verklebten, teilvorgespannten Gläsern (VSG aus TVG), die bei einem eventuellen Bruch eine hohe Resttragfähigkeit aufweisen.

Bei billigen Importgläsern kann Feuchtigkeit in den Folienverbund eindringen (Delamination), wodurch milchige Ränder entstehen. Hochwertig verarbeitetes, zertifiziertes VSG-Glas mit sauber versiegelten Kanten bleibt hingegen dauerhaft klar.

Ja, vollflächig satiniertes oder mattiertes Glas ist eine beliebte Option. Der Sichtschutz wird erreicht, indem zwischen die beiden Glasscheiben eine milchige (opake) Sicherheitsfolie einlaminiert wird.

Absolut, moderne Glas-Balkone unterliegen strengsten statischen Prüfungen. Durch das verwendete Verbundsicherheitsglas hält die extrem zähe Folie im Inneren das Glas selbst bei Rissbildung zusammen wie ein Netz.

Wenn das Glas an der Oberkante frei abschließt, schreibt die DIN 18008 zum Schutz der empfindlichen Glaskante zwingend ein Kantenprofil vor. Meist wird stattdessen direkt ein klassischer Handlauf (U-Profil) aus Edelstahl aufgesteckt.
