Glass Juliet Balconies: Maximum Transparency and Modern Lighting Design

In contemporary architecture, the natural illumination of living spaces is paramount. Glass Juliet balconies are the ideal solution for securing floor-to-ceiling windows without compromising light incidence or outward visibility. They offer an elegant renaissance of the classic balustrade and impress with a minimalist design that integrates seamlessly into modern facade concepts. The use of glass creates bright, friendly interiors and a harmonious, stylish overall appearance of the building.

Safety through Laminated Safety Glass (LSG) made of Heat-Strengthened Glass (HSG)

When it comes to glass fall protection, technical safety is paramount. Kirchberger Metall exclusively uses high-quality Laminated Safety Glass (LSG) made of heat-strengthened glass (HSG). This consists of two or more panes of glass connected by a tear-resistant, elastic film. This offers crucial functional advantages:

  • Splinter protection:In the event of glass breakage, the fragments remain adhered to the inner film, preventing injury from falling splinters.
  • Residual load-bearing capacity:Even if damaged, the element retains a certain stability, which is essential for fall protection.
  • Burglary protection:Especially for floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor, LSG offers increased resistance to mechanical impact from the outside.
  • Norm conformity:The systems comply with all relevant building regulations and safety standards for private and commercial use.

Material combination: Robust frames and handrails

The glass infills are held by stable constructions made of stainless steelor hot-dip galvanized steel. These materials guarantee the necessary static strength and long-lasting corrosion resistance. The simple aesthetic of stainless steel and glass also provides an excellent basis for individual decorations. Thanks to the robust construction, for example, planters or grasses can be easily attached to the structure to further green the facade.

Customized production "Made in Germany"

Each glass Juliet balcony is manufactured in Germany according to individual customer measurements. This ensures that the fall protection fits your window openings precisely to the millimeter. Delivery is ready for assembly, which significantly simplifies on-site installation. The online configurator allows you to define dimensions and material combinations to obtain a solution that meets the highest functional and aesthetic demands. Questions and Answers

The glass is secured without drilling, purely by strong clamping force. The pane is slid precisely into the stainless steel or aluminum profiles and safely locked in place with rubber seals or plastic wedges.

With windows that open outward, access for cleaning is difficult. A magnetic window cleaner or a squeegee with a long, angled telescopic handle are the safest aids here.

The glass can be attached with round stainless steel point fixings (rosettes) that sit directly in the wall. Alternatively, it is clamped laterally in slim aluminum clamping rails or a continuous floor profile.

The exact glass thickness is determined by the manufacturer through type testing (AbP) based on the window width. For French balconies, the glass thickness is usually between a solid 12 mm and 16 mm.

According to the technical guidelines, laminated safety glass (VSG) is mandatory for fall protection barriers. It usually consists of two bonded, heat-strengthened panes (VSG made of TVG) that retain a high residual load-bearing capacity in the event of breakage.

With cheap imported glass, moisture can penetrate the film bond (delamination), creating milky edges. High-quality, certified laminated safety glass with cleanly sealed edges, however, stays permanently clear.

Yes, fully satinized or frosted glass is a popular option. The privacy effect is achieved by laminating a milky (opaque) safety film between the two glass panes.

Absolutely – modern glass balconies are subject to the strictest structural testing. Thanks to the laminated safety glass used, the extremely tough interlayer film holds the glass together like a net even if it cracks.

If the glass ends exposed at the top edge, DIN 18008 mandates an edge profile to protect the sensitive glass edge. In most cases, a classic stainless steel handrail (U-profile) is simply fitted on top instead.
