Patio roofs: Functional expansion and weather protection for outdoor areas
A patio roof serves as a technical solution for making outdoor spaces usable regardless of changing weather conditions. Kirchberger Metall's systems offer effective protection from rain, wind, and direct sunlight, transforming the patio into an extension of the living space. The use of high-quality metal structures and certified glass elements ensures lasting stability that can withstand even extreme loads such as snow or hail. The entire process, from concept and design to manufacturing, takes place in Germany.
Material properties: Steel and aluminum compared
Materials with high torsional stiffness and corrosion resistance are used for the structural design. Depending on the structural requirements and desired aesthetics, two material options are available:
- Hot-dip galvanized steel:This material offers outstanding load-bearing capacity, which is particularly advantageous for large spans and areas with high snow loads. Hot-dip galvanizing provides durable corrosion protection, which can be further customized with an additional powder coating in any desired RAL color.
- Aluminum profiles:Aluminum is characterized by its low weight and high resistance to atmospheric influences. The profiles require little maintenance and can be processed precisely, contributing to a clean and modern look for the overall system.
Glass technology: Laminated safety glass (VSG)
Kirchberger Metall relies exclusively on [material/component] for the covering of the roof surfaces and the optional side panels.Laminated safety glass (VSG)This glass consists of at least two panes of glass bonded together by a tear-resistant, double PVB interlayer. This construction ensures that in the event of mechanical damage, the glass does not shatter, but rather the fragments remain adhered to the interlayer. Laminated safety glass (VSG) also offers sufficient resistance to falling branches and extreme weather events such as heavy rain or hail.
Mounting options: wall mounting or freestanding construction
The structural integration of the terrace roof can be done in two different ways, depending on the existing building structure:
- Wall mounting:Provided there is solid masonry, the roof is anchored directly to the building on one side. This ensures a seamless transition between the interior and the terrace and saves space in the passageway.
- Freestanding solution:This structure is independent of the house wall and can be positioned anywhere on the property. It is particularly suitable for locations where the facade's structural integrity does not allow for direct attachment or where placement in the garden is desired.
Roof shapes and optional equipment
Regarding the roof shape, classic options are available.flat roofsas well as one-sided inclinationPitched roofsThe shed roof, with its slope, promotes the natural runoff of rainwater and the self-cleaning of the glass surfaces. To optimize thermal comfort under the roof, the systems can be combined with suitable shading systems. These accessories protect against overheating and glare from direct sunlight. Powder coating of the metal parts in the entire RAL color palette also allows for precise matching to existing window frames or the facade color of the house.
Comprehensive manufacturing service
Kirchberger Metall offers turnkey project management. Following technical planning and 3D sketching, expert manufacturing takes place in their own production facilities. Delivery and installation are carried out by trained specialists to ensure structurally sound anchoring and standard-compliant installation of the glass elements. This guarantees high quality and longevity for the entire patio roof.
