Railings and fences from Kirchberger Metall: Safety and demarcation made to measure

In metal construction, railings, fall protection systems, and fences fulfill clear but distinct functions: While fences primarily serve as enclosures, railings function as legally mandated safety elements. Kirchberger Metall manufactures standard-compliant systems from steel and stainless steel that meet both the specific requirements for geometry and the necessary structural integrity. Whether for private gardens, modern residential buildings, or industrial facilities – we deliver solutions that combine the highest safety standards with appealing architectural design.

Functional distinction and relevance under building law

The choice of the appropriate system depends largely on the building regulations.Fall protection through railingsA railing is legally mandatory whenever there is a potential risk of falling. Since state building codes vary slightly, it is essential to obtain information specific to your state beforehand. Generally speaking, a railing with a minimum height of 90 cm is required for a fall height of 100 cm or more. For a fall height of 12 m or more, a railing at least 110 cm high is necessary.

Design compliant with DIN EN 1090

Safety in fall protection systems is not a matter of chance, but the result of certified processes. The manufacture of railings may only take place in specialist companies that comply with the European standard.DIN EN 1090are certified. As a certified manufacturer, Kirchberger Metall guarantees compliance with these strict quality and safety standards. A key aspect of child safety is the geometry of the infill: all railing openings must not exceed a clear dimension of 12 cm. This maximum bar spacing ensures that falling through or getting trapped is reliably prevented.

Static requirements and tie-bar loads

The static load-bearing capacity of a railing is defined by the so-called post load. Here, we distinguish between two main areas of application:

  • 0.5 kN/m (Private area):Designed for situations with little public traffic, such as those common in single-family homes or private gardens.
  • 1.0 kN/m (Public area):Required in public buildings, schools or commercial properties with significant public traffic to ensure the necessary stability under high occupancy.

Material quality for lasting weather protection

The longevity of a fall protection system depends crucially on the choice of materials and the surface finish. Kirchberger Metall uses only high-quality materials that are optimized for permanent outdoor use.

  • Hot-dip galvanized steel:The metallic alloy provides extremely robust protection against corrosion and mechanical influences.
  • Powder-coated steel:Allows for optical customization in all RAL colors and offers additional chemical protection of the surface.
  • Stainless steel (V2A/V4A):The exclusive choice for the highest demands on aesthetics and weather resistance.

Individual planning and technical advice

An effective fall protection system requires early and precise planning. We support your project from the initial analysis of fall heights to the production of perfectly fitting elements. Since railings can often also function as robust fences, our systems allow for a uniform appearance along the entire property boundary without any system changes. Questions and Answers
