Canopies from Kirchberger Metall: Technical Weather Protection and Architectural Enhancement

A canopy fulfills crucial functions in the entrance area of a building: It offers effective weather protection for people and protects the building structure and the front door from the direct effects of precipitation and UV radiation. At Kirchberger Metall, you receive custom-madecanopy systems that meet all quality standards and are tailored to your specific architecture. By using weather-resistant metals and safety glass (VSG), our constructions guarantee maximum durability with high light transmission and modern aesthetics.

What are the advantages of an entrance canopy?

The installation of a canopy offers significant technical advantages for maintaining the value of your property. Without a canopy, moisture penetrates the hallway every time the door is opened, which can damage the flooring in the long run. A canopy creates a dry transition zonewhere moisture can drip off. In addition, the risk of slipping due to ice formation on steps in winter is effectively minimized. A crucial aspect is also the protection of the front door: shielding from driving rain and intense sunlight significantly extends the lifespan of door seals and surface coatings.

Material Specifications: Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Safety Glass

We exclusively process high-quality materials that are optimized for long-term outdoor use. You have the choice between different system components:

  • Aluminum (powder-coated):This lightweight metal is characterized by high corrosion resistance. A powder coating in all RAL colors allows the canopy to be precisely matched in color to the window frames or the facade.
  • Stainless Steel (V2A):Offers a particularly high-quality, functional appearance and extreme mechanical stability with minimal maintenance.
  • Glass Roofing:We primarily use laminated safety glass (VSG), which provides maximum safety and transparency even with heavy precipitation or snow loads. Alternatively, solutions with acrylic glass are available.

Custom Manufacturing and Technical Planning "Made in Germany"

Every canopy from Kirchberger Metall is a custom-made product. Unlike standard solutions, each system is produced in Germany precisely to your specifications. As part of the planning, we create technical drawings and sketches upon request to ensure perfect integration into the facade architecture. Our online configurator allows you to individually define details such as dimensions, glass type, and water drainage. In most models, drainage occurs via integrated gutters, whose discharge direction can be configured according to the structural conditions.

Installation Options: Self-Assembly or Professional Service

Our canopy systems are prepared for efficient installation on the house wall. We supply all components ready for assembly, including detailed instructions and the appropriate mounting material for the most common substrates. For customers who prefer a turnkey solution, our experienced installation team offers professional on-site installation.

Questions and Answers

Since the insulation cannot bear any loads, special anchors are required. Special stand-off mounting systems (thermal stops) create a force-fit connection into the masonry behind, without thermally breaking through the insulation layer.

To provide real weather protection, the porch roof must be generously sized. It should extend at least 20 to 30 cm beyond the width of the front door on both sides and have a minimum depth of approx. 100 cm.

• A porch roof must never be stepped on directly for cleaning!
• The best way to clean the roof is with warm soapy water and a telescopic wiper with a soft rubber squeegee, working from a secure ladder.

A strict safety standard applies to all overhead glazing. We use laminated safety glass (VSG), which in turn is made from heat-strengthened glass (TVG), to prevent injuries from falling shards in the event of breakage. Alternatively, acrylic glass can also be used.

A small porch roof covering just the front door is usually permit-free under building law as a subordinate structure. However, if the house is a listed building or the porch roof projects into the public street space, the building authority must be contacted.

Cantilevered porch roofs (clamped only in a wall profile) look fragile but are structurally extremely load-bearing. If the calculated glass thickness (VSG laminated safety glass) is matched to the respective snow load zone, they easily withstand even heavy, wet snow.

Yes, some of our porch roofs have the lighting integrated into the profile, often invisibly. High-output LED strips sit water-protected in the rear wall connection profile or illuminate the glass roof from the support arms.

The mounting height is often a matter of visual taste, but it should be practical. Ideally, the lower edge of the porch roof is positioned about 20 to 30 cm above the top of the door frame to ensure sufficient headroom.

A rain gutter is usually not mandatory. On classic mono-pitch roofs sloping toward the front, the integrated drip edge is sufficient to let rainwater drip off in a controlled manner in front of the entrance area. Some models also feature an integrated water spout.
