WSM Köln Canopy System: Modular Multifunctionality for Outdoor Areas
The WSM Kölnmodel is a highly flexible canopy system that goes far beyond the function of a classic smoking shelter. Thanks to its robust steel construction and variable wall elements, it is also excellently suited as a bicycle shelter, an enclosure for waste bins, or a protected depot for work equipment. Its clear design language and high-quality workmanship allow for seamless integration into industrial, commercial, and public outdoor areas.
Dimensions and Design Variability
To accommodate various space conditions and capacity requirements, the system is available in numerous standard sizes – and can also be custom-configured. The construction width is unlimited: upon request, we design the canopy precisely for your location – we have already realized installations up to 20 m in length. In addition to size, the appearance can be individually adapted to the location through a wide selection of cladding materials:
- Clear glass:Maximum transparency for an open atmosphere and good visibility.
- Glass with screen print:Combines light transmission with discreet privacy or decorative patterns.
- Perforated sheet in frame color:Robust, modern aluminum variant – provides privacy and ensures permanent air circulation.

Sizes at a Glance
All models have a total height of 2.51 m (clear height 2.36 m) and a flat roof made of trapezoidal sheet metal. The following construction sizes are common standards – not an upper limit:
- K1:1.15 × 1.15 m or 1.51 × 1.51 m – compact smoking or waste bin shelter.
- K2:2.2 × 2.2 m – versatile standard for smokers, bicycles, or equipment.
- K3:3.2 × 2.2 m – more space for teams or bicycle parking.
- K4:4.2 × 2.2 m (double module K4 e/e 4.2 × 4.3 m) – for high capacities.
- K6:6.4 × 3.1 m – spacious break or waiting area.
- K40:4.2 × 2.2 m with lockable double sliding door – ideal as a bicycle or waste bin shed.

Corrosion Protection & Durability
The entire construction is galvanized, primed, and color-coated with environmentally friendly two-component paint – for permanent protection even under severe weather conditions.

The WSM Köln model can be technically and ecologically upgraded through functional options and accessories:
- Green roof:A sustainable, modular solution with sedum plants. The modules are integrated directly into the trapezoidal profile, improve the microclimate, and serve as a natural water reservoir.
- Lighting (InLight):Integrated, vandalism-protected LED systems including presence detectors ensure safety in the dark.
- Photovoltaic system (VersoVolt):Enables a completely self-sufficient power supply for lighting without elaborate earthworks for power cables.
Foundations and Ground Anchoring
The stability of the system is ensured by precise anchoring. Three technical solutions are the focus here:
- Existing foundation:Fastening directly onto a level concrete surface (OKF ± 0 cm).
- Paved surface:When mounting on paving (OKF –20 cm), a post extensionis used to ensure static stability in the subsoil.
- Pre-fabricated concrete foundation slab:This option replaces elaborate formwork on site. The reinforced slab with a structured surface (slip resistance class R13) is placed at ground level on a prepared gravel bed.
Delivery and Assembly Options
Depending on the structural conditions on site, two basic delivery forms are available:
- Fully assembled:The cabin is fully assembled at the factory and delivered by crane truckand positioned directly at the installation site.
- Kit delivery:Ideal for restricted access routes. Assembly is carried out by the customer or by specialist personnel on site using detailed assembly instructions.
In addition, various service packages can be booked, ranging from simple delivery with self-unloading to complete assembly including ground anchoring by the manufacturer.
