French Balcony Model Lyon Galvanized – Custom-Made Fall Protection

High-quality French balcony in galvanized steel – Made in Germany, direct from the manufacturer. All joints are solidly and professionally welded. For the infill bars we use solid material only (Ø 12 mm) instead of low-grade round tube.

    Design & technical details

    • Manufactured to DIN EN 1090
    • Material: steel (S235JR), hot-dip galvanized
    • Handrail: tube Ø 42.4 mm (wall thickness 2 mm) – optionally in stainless steel (+ 59 € per unit)
    • Top and bottom rail: tube Ø 33.7 mm (wall thickness 2 mm)
    • Infill bars: Ø 12.0 mm solid material
    • Spacing of the infill bars: max. 120 mm (varies with the overall length)
    • Width (hole spacing): 300 to 2700 mm, accurate to the millimeter
    • Height: 900 to 1100 mm in 50 mm increments, standard height 1000 mm
    • Wall mounting elements in stainless steel
    • Quantity discount: 3–4 units −3 %, 5–10 units −5 %, 11 units or more −10 % – deducted automatically in the configurator

    Why hot-dip galvanized

In hot-dip galvanizing the entire component goes into the zinc bath. The coating also forms on the weld seams and inside the tubes – exactly where paint never reaches. Zinc keeps protecting the steel even once the surface has been scratched: it does not carry on rusting at small damaged spots. The surface is matte gray and becomes more even over the years. If you want a consistent color of your choice, take the powder-coated version; if you are looking for a rust-free, brushed surface, take the stainless steel variant.

    Handrail version selectable

    • Handrail in galvanized steel
    • Handrail in stainless steel 1.4301, brushed

    Three mounting options

    • Face-mounted with stainless steel spacers: The balcony sits in front of the facade. There is 40 mm of clearance from the tube edge of the top and bottom rail to the wall, and it projects 100 mm beyond the hole spacing on each side.
    • Face-mounted with brackets: the same position in front of the facade, fastened with brackets.
    • In the window reveal: The balcony is set into the reveal at the sides and screwed in place there.

    Determining the mounting distance

Enter the value in mm in the configurator (mounting distance = mounting width = hole spacing). Keep approx. 10 cm clear of the wall edge, otherwise the masonry can break out when drilling. Example: 1000 mm window width + 100 mm on the left + 100 mm on the right = 1200 mm. The price adjusts immediately, and intermediate sizes cost no surcharge.

Mounting kit – depending on your wall

Add the mounting material in the configurator according to your wall type; we adjust the quantity to the number of units automatically. Please observe the applicable building regulations and check with your local building authority in advance; responsibility for selecting the correct mounting material and for proper fastening lies with the installer on site.

    Fragen und Antworten

A French balcony is fall protection for floor-to-ceiling or French windows: it reliably secures the opening while visually enhancing the facade. With us, every balcony is individually made to measure – Made in Germany.

Yes, each unit individually. You specify the mounting distance to the millimeter, from 300 to 2700 mm, and choose the height between 900 and 1100 mm. It is professionally welded to DIN EN 1090, with the spacing of the infill bars staying below 120 mm. The bars are solid material with Ø 12 mm, not round tube.

Under the German model building code, a barrier height of at least 900 mm is required for fall heights of up to 12 m, and at least 1100 mm above that. It is measured from the top of the finished floor to the top of the railing – so the mounting position counts, not just the height of the component. In the configurator you choose 900 to 1100 mm in 50 mm increments; the standard is 1000 mm. Make sure that no more than 5 cm of clearance is left between the railing and the window sill. The building code of your federal state may differ; if in doubt, ask your local building authority.

For face-mounted wall installation: window width (reveal dimension) plus approx. 100 mm overhang on the left and right – e.g. 1000 mm + 100 mm + 100 mm = 1200 mm. Keep at least 10 cm from the wall edge so the masonry does not break out when drilling. For installation in the reveal, the mounting distance equals the reveal dimension.

In both cases the corrosion protection comes from hot-dip galvanizing: the component goes into the zinc bath as a whole, and the coating also forms on the weld seams and inside the tubes. The powder-coated version is coated on top of that – the same protection, plus the color of your choice. Bare steel that is only coated, without galvanizing, keeps rusting from the inside at any damaged spot; that is why we do not do it. So decide on looks and budget, not on durability.

The right kit depends on your wall: standard masonry (brick, aerated concrete), thermal insulation (ETICS) with thermal separation to avoid cold bridges, or timber-frame construction. You add it in the configurator to match.

The price is based on the area: mounting distance times height. Intermediate sizes cost no surcharge – every millimeter is counted. The three mounting options and the color of the powder coating are included at no extra charge; a handrail in brushed stainless steel costs an additional 59 € per unit. From 3 units the configurator deducts the quantity discount automatically: 3–4 units 3 %, 5–10 units 5 %, 11 units or more 10 %. The mounting material is added separately, and we adjust the quantity to the number of units.

Yes. Put your configuration together in the configurator and click ‘Request a free quote’. You will receive the quote as a PDF by email, usually straight away. It is valid for 14 days and is without obligation. We take over your configuration unchanged – you can later order directly from the quote.

As fall protection, the French balcony is subject to building regulations (e.g. regarding height). Please observe the applicable regulations and check with your local building authority in advance. Liability for selecting the correct mounting material and for proper fastening lies with the installer on site.

Delivery is by freight forwarder – free of charge within Germany and to Austria. You can carry out the installation yourself with the matching mounting kit, or commission our installation team. You order directly from the manufacturer; a quantity discount is available from 3 units.
